See? It's a poor visual pun! But it will only get better from here.

In San Francisco, where I've lived for two years now, there are little streets that in any other town would simply be called alleys. In the alley behind my office, I often find interesting things like:

  • graffiti (creative! stick it to the property-ownin' man, the bastard),
  • hobos (more on that later)
  • discarded items (like abandoned hobo houses, crack pipes and articles of clothing -- see pic)

    I think these shoes were left here in some attempt at bartering, or the previous owner thought he/she was putting the shoes away all nice and orderly before sleeping in a hobo house. Note that they are nearly aligned heel to heel, not scattered willy nilly, or one lying on its side at some disorderly angle to the other.

    People like order, people! Just look at the evidence, nay, the sign of the abandoned shoes.
